ok, I know I haven't posted here in uncounted eons, but things get busy and I forget about LJ and it takes me awhile to make it back. >.<

Hubby and I are doing well, he got laid off from IBM a few weeks ago but was hired at Cisco a week later and started a week after that, so as long as the 1 week of unemployment he's due comes in we're perfectly fine. The job pays slightly less but overall is much better, because his contract at IBM had him locked in at his hire-on pay rate forever with no chance of promotion or benefits or anything. Now he has benefits, vacation time, the ability to earn raises and promotions, and best of all he's working with Linux which is his preference instead of the hardware testing he was doing before. Not to mention of course that he's much happier with the environment and people he works with now. I'm still at the same job I've had the past 3 years and change and doing well here.

We recently joined the SCA; our local group is awesome and the events are a blast. Everyone is so accepting no matter what unconventional lifestyle or personal tendencies you might have. They don't judge or question but instead welcome people on their personal merits and strengths and character. We've met a lot of really great people who actually live in our area so we can get together with them irl regularly. I'm so enjoying having a real social life that I've canceled my game subscriptions because I don't have time to play them anymore, though I keep in touch through IM/email/etc with some of the people I'd otherwise miss most.

My sister has been around this SCA group for several years but not all that actively for the most part, and recently has damaged her reputation pretty badly due to her callous treatment of a well respected and much loved member of the community, but the friends I've made since Mike and I joined have all been wonderful about making sure to introduce me around as "Not Penelope" so that I don't get tarred by my identical twin's brush. She's more or less withdrawn from the community lately cause her new bf's not interested in it, though to be honest I'm not sure if she realizes there were consequences to her actions since she hasn't been to an event or even spent time with her SCAdian friends since the event at which she made her mark this past August.

Ironically, the man my sister treated so badly has now become my dom and is teaching me all the things about the BDSM lifestyle which she wanted to learn but was not granted because she refused to accept his terms and instead tried to dictate her own. He wanted to help her (in general, not just BDSM) because he saw her potential, but she's buried it deeply and so he's taken me instead and is satisfied with our arrangements. Hubby and I are both interested in BDSM but not quite the same aspects of it: hubby is sadistic but not dominant and I'm submissive but not very masochistic so in that realm we sort of just miss. I've been interested in BDSM for almost a decade but this has been my first opportunity to actually explore it due to prior relationships with men who were too jealous and/or untrustworthy for it to be possible.

Likewise this is the first relationship I've had in which it will be possible for me to explore my bisexuality if I find a woman with whom I'd like to do so who is likewise interested in me. Since I've never managed to stay single long there simply hasn't been a chance between relationships to try new things. The fact that hubby and I are both bi and neither of us the jealous type allows for our open marriage which in turn allows us both to enjoy the aspects of our sexualities which the other can't personally fulfill. It's by far the most liberating and supportive relationship I've had and I'm so glad I married him. He's been so wonderful as I pursue this self-knowledge and the experiences that have been out of reach before. I've become, as he put it, "comfortable in my own skin" over the last couple of years and I couldn't have done it without him.

On an amusing note, for Halloween I wore the long skirt and peasant blouse and long scarf tied around my waist that are the primary elements of my Scadian gypsy garb with a vest to work, my boss commented that I looked like a pirate's woman (we have a good working relationship and the comment was meant humorously, not insultingly) and I realized that I actually am, because my dom is the Pirate Governor of the Pennsic Pirates (a group within the SCA mostly for people with alternative lifestyles). I found that quite hilarious though I refrained from sharing the joke with my boss.

We have a D&D group that meets once a week in which hubby plays that most annoying of all creatures, the gnome rogue, and I play a wood elf monk. Our DM (originally my sister's best friend but she's rather irritated with my sister right now, completely unrelated to the above issue) is running a great storyline with lots of roleplay and background and interesting NPCs. We're very much hoping Kirine and her hubby Loriean will be able to join the group cause we love them and miss them and want an excuse to get together every week >;D

Last weekend I went to a goth metal concert at a club where most of the other patrons that night were people who know my sister from a different club and many of whom didn't realize she has a twin (neither of us really makes a big deal out of our twinhood since we prefer to be individuals rather than the unit of "the twins"). Was quite interesting since she wasn't there that night but her boyfriend was, and I was obviously there with a different man. Two of the three bands that played that night were awesome and it was a great show. The good bands were Angels on Acid and Anders Manga, if anyone's interested in the genre. The one to avoid called themselves Pterodactyl (not sure if they mispell it for their band name, they should have called themselves Terrible instead, they quickly made it apparent why every member of the band was masked - shame!).

We're getting together with a whole bunch of our newfound friends the weekend after this coming one for a big pre-Thanksgiving potluck, really looking forward to that gathering. Then of course spending the actual Thanksgiving with my family, which should also be nice enough. I love the general attitude around the holidays, when most people try to actually remember that life can be a gift and so can those you share it with.

I've been offered one of the three officerships for the local Rosicrucian group Mike and I belong to as well, which is a big honor since we're fairly new to the order, having only joined about 2.5 years ago. The officership is a 2 year term but it's already about 8 months into the current term; the person they had previously chosen had to resign for health and family issues. I'm hoping she'll be alright and a bit nervous about the responsibility but looking forward to it for the most part.

All in all, life is going great and looks to keep getting better over time :)
